An exhibition with works by Channa Boon, Sven Gareis, Ute Härting, Hendrik Kröz and Remco Schuurbiers

DIN 1164 (German industrial cement standard)

Sven Gareis, Remco Schuurbiers and Channa Boon each spent a period working – separately – in Seoul, South Korea.

Springing from very different points of view, Gareis, Schuurbiers and Boon want to merge their work into a kaleidoscopic exhibition for General Public, presenting the ROK’s uniquely urban world without the crowds of human beings that populate it.

Sven Gareis collaborated with Ute Härting and Hendrik Kröz to develop "Desperados". They observed and recorded delicate plant-life growing right next to the street, thus staging a new view of urban living space. Even-tempered though they seem, those tiny desperados occupy the centre of the scene: their leaves are moving in sharp contrast to the automobile headlights in the background. At eye level with weeds, the different speeds of life become visible. "Desperados" shows organic everyday life and wishes to grow steadily as an organism itself: each place and region visited by "Desperados" will provide their watchful cameras and sensitive microphones with new impressions from the roadside, and be heartily invited to become an inherent part of the installation.Channa Boon zoomed in on the demolitions that are constantly going on in Seoul – landscapes of demolished concrete apartment complexes; bulldozers that swallow whole blocks of houses – morphing the city into new forms in a never-ending bulldozer ballet. One hears the voices of furious house owners that feel they are badly treated protesting in typical, high–flown Korean demonstration style.
Remco Schuurbiers registered the summer monsoon in a minimal way. The only thing that moves in his footage is the endlessly falling rain.
